Our mission is to provide a gathering place for residents and visitors alike to learn about the geological, ecological, and cultural history of the Hanford Reach National Monument and greater Columbia Basin from the Ice Age through the Atomic Age. We aim to foster appreciation, stewardship, and understanding of the area through education and interpretation.
The interpretive center is being developed in response to community needs identified by local citizens. The Reach will:
- Position the Tri-Cities as a viable player for culture in the region by showcasing the unique and compelling stories that make the area special. The Reach will help our communities diversify the economy in a way that is in harmony with the area’s natural and cultural resources.
- Develop innovative education programs and activities for regional schools that they cannot get anywhere else in the area related to math, science, and social studies. These programs will focus on building student engagement and providing professional development for teachers and other educators.
- Provide a community gathering place to bring together generations of residents and visitors at a natural setting with unparalleled views of the Columbia River and Yakima Delta.
- Draw visitors to our community and create greater economic impact through tourism.
